Autonomous Sculpture, 2008

A piece of art can
be seen as a materialised communication between artist and the onlooker. But is
it possible to imagine an artwork being something in itself? The autonomy of an
artwork is a recurring object of discussion; one imagines a force not relying
on circumstances of preconceived knowledge. This artwork is a proposal for such
a completely independent sculpture. Unfortunately its absolute autonomy
prevents us from conceiving any sense from it. We might postulate that an
artwork’s innate power works opposite to its communicative meaning.
